Ben Dempster – an experienced attorney

Ben is a Chartered Patent Attorney, a European Patent Attorney, and a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney with over thirty years’ experience in the profession.

Ben has a broad based Natural Sciences degree from Cambridge University in which he studied physics, crystalline materials and biology, alongside his main specialisation: metallurgy and materials science.  

Areas in which he has professional experience include printer technology, railway engineering, spacecraft engineering, medical devices, packaging, construction, camcorder technology, display technology, door and window furniture, and filtration equipment amongst others.

Specifically in the field of metallurgy and materials science he has experience in composite fabrication, plastics moulding, brazing, thermal spray, powder metallurgy,  lightweight metal aircraft structures, con rod composition and fabrication, investment casting, single crystal turbine blades, iron casting, photolithography, additive manufacture, and deposition of ceramic coatings amongst others.

Ben’s background and breadth of technical experience gives him the ability to deal with a wide range of technologies.

On the legal side, Ben has particular experience in infringement clearance advice, oppositions at the European Patent Office, and due diligence exercises.

He has extensive experience in registered designs and has the rare distinction of having represented a client at an inter partes hearing on a registered design matter at the UKIPO.
